    KKR started well by departing Ajinkya Rahane on 5 runs of 7 balls in the 2nd over of the match by Prasidh Krishna. The RR batsman showed a very poor intent as they scored ony 28 runs in the powerplay. Josh Buttler and Steven Smith scored runs with a poor run rate as Butler scored 37 runs of 34 balls and was sent back to pavilion by Harry Gurney who was playing his debut match in Vivo IPL season 12. Harry in his next over picked the wicket of Rahul Tripathi. Steven Smith scored runs for the team and got his first fifty in the season but the bowlers of KKR restricted RR on 139-2 in 20 overs despite of Smith's 73* runs (7 fours and a six)o o 59 balls.

KKR'S openers Chris Lynn and Sunil Narine showed totally different approach to the  tackle the behavior of the pitch and played aggressively as they scored 65 runs in the first 6 overs. Both the opener played shots with ease and scored 91 runs for the first wicket where Sunil Narine scored 47 runs of 25 balls with 6 fours and 3 sixes and got out by Shreyas Gopal. Chris Lynn took the match away from Rajasthan with his 50 runs (6 fours, 3 sixes) of 32 balls but at the got out by Shreyas Gopal. At the end Uthappa completed the remaining task with his 26 runs (1 four, 2 sixes) of 16 balls along with Subhman Gill. And KKR won the match by 8 wickets as they scored 140 runs in 13.5 overs and got the top position in the points table with 8 points in 5 matches.
