Attributing his success to Ganguly, Harbhajan told Aakash Chopra, the former opener of the Indian cricket team, 'Sourav Ganguly played an important role in my career. There was a time in my life when I did not know who was with me and who was not. Many people were saying in front that they are with me, but many of them were not with me at that time.
At that time, Ganguly supported me when I had none. The selectors were against me, they told me many things on their faces, which I cannot disclose. If I praise Ganguly, it will be less. If he was not the captain at that time, I do not know if any other captain would have supported me at that time.
Harbhajan said, 'If any player has taken my career forward the most, then he is Sourav Ganguly. Had he not been there, I would not have played 100 Tests. Sourav always stood for bowlers. He used to give you the freedom to bowl and gave all the things you need as a bowler to boost your confidence.
