ENG vs PAK 1st Test Babar Azam's half-century

Manchester: With Babar Azam's half-century, Pakistan scored 139 for 2 wickets on the first day affected by the rain of the first cricket test against England. Pakistan captain Azhar Ali won the toss and decided to bat first, after which the team lost two wickets for 43 runs.

Babar faced an unbeaten 69 off 100 balls with 11 fours. He got the good support of opener Shaan Masood, who scored an unbeaten 46 off 152 balls with the help of 7 fours. Both have so far shared an unbroken 96-run partnership for the third wicket.

Due to rain, only 49 overs could be played throughout the day. Due to rain, tea had to be taken soon and after that only 7.5 overs could be played. When the day's play was declared to be over due to poor lighting, around 15 overs were yet to be bowled. For England, Joffra Archer and Chris Woakes took one wicket each. Babar avoided getting out on the first ball of Vox but after that he batted well.

Players had to return for 10 minutes in the first session due to rain for the first time, while strong rains started just before 3 pm local time and had to take tea soon. The game resumed after that but soon the day's play had to be ended due to poor light. Archer and Vox gave Pakistan the initial setbacks. Masood and Abid Ali (16) gave a cautious start amidst the cloudy sky, keeping the hosts' bowlers from success in the first hour.

The new ball pair of James Anderson and Stuart Broad bothered both batsmen several times but they managed to get the score to 36 runs without losing wickets. Joe Root decided to field Archer and Vox, replacing Anderson and Broad, and both did not disappoint their captain. Archer bowled Abid Ali on the 7th ball of his match and gave England the first success.

Abid must have been frustrated because the rain had to stop the game for some time only after 3 balls of his dismissal. Within 10 minutes of the match being resumed, Vox trapped captain Azhar Ali. They could not even open an account. Azhar resorted to DRS but the decision went in favor of the bowler. Star batsman Babar Azam had to face a lot of trouble in the initial. He opened the account on the 15th ball but batted brilliantly when he came in rhythm.
