Rohit Sharma and Quiton de Kock gave a good start to the team and scored 57 runs for the first wicket in the powerplay. But in the first ball just after the powerplay Amit Mishra picked the wicket of Rohit Sharma who scored 30 runs (3 fours, 1 sixes) of 22 balls. MI lost their 2nd wicket of Ben Cutting in the very next over of the inning by Axar Patel. De Kock who looked quite comfortable was unfortunately got out by a brilliant run out by Rabada/Pant/Axar on 35 runs 2 fours, 2 six of 27 balls. Surya Kumar played some good cricket but couldn't score more than 26 runs (2 fours) of 27 balls by Rabada. MI lost wickets at regular intervals which affected the run rate of the team, than a partnership of 54 between the Pandya brothers helped the team to set a competitive total of 168-5 in 20 overs where Hardik Pandya scored 32 runs(2 fours, 3 sixes) of 15 balls and Krunal Pandya scored unbeaten 37 runs (5 fours) of 26 balls.
Rabada picked 2 wickets and Amit Mishra and Axar Patel got 1 wicket each.

Prithvi Shaw and Sikhar Dhawan started the Inning quite sensible and scored 48 runs in the powerplay without losing any wicket. But Dhawan was quite unfortunate to got out by Rahul Chahar on 35 runs (5 fours, 1 six) of 22 balls. Prithvi Shaw too couldn't score big and departed scoring 20 runs (2 fours) of 22 balls by Rahul Chahar. After the openers wicket, DC started to loose wickets at regular and quick intervals and in between Axar Patel tried to take the team close to the target but was sent back to pavilion on 26 runs (1 four, 1 six) of 23 balls. No other batsman contributed much as result of which Delhi Capitals managed to score 128-9 in 20 overs and MI won the match by 40 runs and goes up in the points table. Rahul Chahar took 3 important wickets conceding 19 runs in his 4 overs, Bumrah picked 2 wickets and Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya and Lashit Malinga got 1 wicket each.
Hardik Pandya got the Player of the match award for his all-round performance in 34th Match of VIVO IPL Season 12, DC vs MI in Delhi.
