However, the very next year, ie in 1999, Dravid returned to the team and with his superb batting in the World Cup in England that year, Dravid not only gave a befitting reply to the selectors, along with that he made the hearts of those Indian fans Had also won who completely disliked him. Dravid had two such partnerships during that tournament which are part of Indian cricket history today. During a special conversation with former Indian batsman WV Raman, Dravid recalled this story and told about the feeling of insecurity he had at that time.

Dravid said, 'There was such a phase in my international career. In 1998, I was dropped from the ODI team. I had to work hard to come back. I was out of the team for a year. There was uncertainty as to whether I was the right player for the ODI or not because I always wanted to be a Test player. My coaching was also like a test player. Beat the ball down. Do not hit the ball in the air. My coaching was like this, you get worried whether you have the skills for ODI or not.

During a conversation with WV Raman, Dravid also stated that after his retirement he was completely confused as to what to do now.
