New Zealand Denies offering to host IPL 2020

New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said it had not offered to host the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year and called such reports simply 'speculation'. NZC spokesman Richard Booke confirmed that the cricket board had never shown interest in hosting the IPL.

The IPL was scheduled to be held in March, but has been postponed indefinitely due to the Kovid-19 epidemic. Booke told Radio New Zealand, 'This report is purely speculation. We did not offer to host the IPL and neither did anyone offer it to us.

Indian media reports had said that if the IPL is held overseas due to the epidemic, then after the United Arab Emirates and Sri Lanka, New Zealand has also joined the race to host it. Only then did Booke make this statement.
The Cricket Board of India is planning to host the IPL from September to early November in place of the T20 World Cup to be held in Australia. The postponement of the T20 World Cup is being considered due to the increasing cases of Covid-19.

If the IPL is held outside the country, it will be the second occasion while the entire tournament will be held abroad. The IPL was held in South Africa in 2009 due to general elections in India.
