Sangakkara was asked to give a statement on World Cup 2011 Match-Fixing Allegation

Former Sri Lankan cricket captain Kumar Sangakkara has been asked to give a statement before the Special Investigation Committee of the Sports Ministry. This committee is investigating allegations that the World Cup 2011 final against India was the final fix in which the team had to face defeat.

This information was given in local media news. The Sri Lankan Sports Minister had last month asked former Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamge to investigate allegations that the national cricket team's defeat against India in the 2015 World Cup final was fixed by 'some sides'.

Sangakkara was the captain of the Sri Lankan team at that time. Local newspaper 'Daily Mirror' quoted SSP WAJH Fonseca as saying that the Special Investigation Department of the Sports Ministry has asked Sangakkara to record the statement. According to the news, Sangakkara has been asked to record the statement before the inquiry committee at 9 am on Thursday.

The Special Investigation Committee has also recorded the statements of Sri Lankan veteran batsman Arvind DeSilva and Upul Tharanga, who opened the innings in that match. DeSilva was then chairman of the selection committee.
