 The start of Rajasthan Royals was not bad but the wicket of Ajinkya Rahane changed the momentum of the inning towards CSK. After the wicket of Jos Buttler on 23 runs (4 fours,1 six) of 10 balls RR started to lose wickets at regular and quick intervals. Ben Stokes once again failed to perform with the bat and scored 28 runs (1 four) of 26 balls and got out by Deepak Chahar. The debutant Riyan Parag looked good with the bat but couldn't score more than 16 runs (2 fours) of 14 balls and was departed by Sardul Thakur. At the end Shreyas Gopal scored 19 runs of 7 balls along with Jofra Archar who scored 13 runs of 12 balls which helped the team to set a competitive total of 151-7 in 20 overs.

MSD used the bowlers at par which as result restricted RR on 151 runs where Deepak Chahar, R Jadeja and SN Thakur picked 2 wickets each and Santner got one wicket and Jadeja completed his 100 wickets of his IPL career.

 The start for CSK was not good as Dhawal Kulkarni departed Watson on a duck in the very first over of the inning and lost 3 more wickets in the powerplay and scored only 24 runs in 6 overs. Than a partnership between Ambati Rayudu and MS Dhoni helped the to revive and get closer to the target where they scored 95 runs for the 5 wickets and Rayudu scored his first half century in the season and got out on 57 runs (2 fours, 3 sixes) of 47 balls by Ben Stokes. MS Dhoni at the took the match close to the total but unfortunately got out in the last over of the match after scoring a magnificent 58 runs of 43 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes by Ben Stokes. And in the very next bowl a huge drama created on the field as the square leg umpire turn the decision of the main umpire of no-ball into a legal delivery which was actually a no-ball and Dhoni rushed into the ground and tried to convince that it was a no ball and how the decision can be changed after it has been given by the main umpire. Ultimately CSK won the match by 4 wickets after scoring 155-6 in 20 overs.

The bowlers bowled really well but couldn't make the team win the match where Dhawal Kulkarni, Jofra Archar and Jaydev Unadkat picked 1 wicket each and Ben Stokes got 2 wickets.
