Three contenders from India for the post of ICC President

Three contenders from India for the post of ICC President

Shashank Manohar's extended tenure as International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman comes to an end in July and now the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has turned his attention to the post of ICC President.

BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, former President and current Union Minister Anurag Thakur and former BCCI and ICC President N.K. Srinivasan is its main contender. However, Srini will be able to approach the ICC only if the Supreme Court accepts the BCCI petition. The BCCI has filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking to change the old order of a maximum time limit of 70 years for its representative in the ICC.

It is known that according to the decision of the Supreme Court on the recommendations of the Lodha Committee, there can be no official in BCCI above the age of 70 years. Not only this, but BCCI representatives also cannot be more than 70 years of age in ICC. This rule is a major obstacle in Srinivasan's path to becoming the ICC President.

In October, when it was decided to make Jai Shah the secretary and Sourav Ganguly as president and Sourav Ganguly as the chairman of a prominent Union government in Delhi, Srinivasan was also promised that he would be sent to the ICC and the Supreme Court would be relieved. . The BCCI has filed a petition in the Supreme Court last week but it has not been accepted yet.

According to BCCI sources, Union Minister Anurag Thakur also wishes to go to the ICC. On the other hand, many people including former South African captain Graeme Smith have called Sourav Ganguly as the contender for the post of president. If the Supreme Court does not accept the relief sought in the BCCI's petition, then Ganguly may have to resign from the Board President due to the cooling-off rule (three years' rest for six consecutive years in the state and BCCI combined).

In such a situation, he also wants to go to the ICC because the BCCI constitution does not apply there. The ICC will start the nomination process from 26th and the conditions will clear up after a day or two. The current ICC chairman and former BCCI president Shashank Manohar does not want Shrini to replace him in any way.

That is why Shashank has also spoken of supporting Ganguly from Pakistan, South Africa, and Bangladesh. After the conditions arising after Corona, the tour of the Indian team has also become very important for strong cricket boards like Australia and England as they will get money only when the Indian team visits them. In such a situation, it will not be difficult for India to take the support of both these boards.

The three T20 series that South Africa has said to play will also be approved by the BCCI only if the South Africa Cricket Board gives a written assurance to India. The ICC chairman can be the one who has been the director of the ICC. Ganguly is currently the director of the ICC, while Srini and Anurag have previously been directors.
