Once Sanjay Manjrekar was called the next Gavaskar

Today is the birthday of Sanjay Manjrekar. Cricket was inherited from him. Father Vijay Manjrekar was the batsman of the era when Indian cricket was in its foothold. Sanjay was just 18 when senior Manjrekar died. His Ranji debut was not even made at that time. However the father was confident that the son would one day play for Team India.

Born on 12 July 1965, Sanjay Manjrekar was once considered the successor of Sunil Gavaskar, but he did not achieve the heights he had hoped for in his career. Sanjay Manjrekar himself revealed in his autobiography that his career ended early because of Rahul Dravid and Sourav Ganguly.

Sanjay Manjrekar, who made his mark as a commentator after retiring, wrote in his autobiography 'Imperfect' launched in 2018 that when he said goodbye to the game, he was an important batsman of the team and out of form was not at all, but Sourav Ganguly and Rahul understood Dravid's game that now their 'time is over'.

Manjrekar wrote that during the 1996 England tour, Dravid was expected to perform well, but Sourav Ganguly was a surprise to everyone. Sanjay further said that Dravid seemed to have been made for Team India, but when I saw him playing and the way he batting, then I had a feeling that now my 'time is over'.

By the time Manjrekar played international cricket, he was recognized as a technically capable player. Especially his record was excellent on foreign pitches. He has been given many times by fellow players for his technique. Used to say perfect, but Sachin was Mr. Named different.

Also, criticizing Sachin in sweet words, he had said that while Sachin was going through the final stages of his career, many times things were happening in the team because of him. This was a time when Sachin was going through a very poor form, but just being an iconic player, no one dared to put him out of the playing-11. Being in the team consistently while in poor form is a joke with other talented players.

Sanjay Manjrekar had said, 'Whenever there was a thought in my mind about the retirement of Sachin, I always thought that Sachin would later be connected to cricket in some way through coaching, business or social activity. But the World Cup-winning player chose to be a member of the Rajya Sabha rather than a better option than joining cricket.
