ICC postponed 2 big tournaments due to COVID19

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has postponed the qualifying tournaments in July of the 2021 Women's World Cup and the 2022 Men's Under-19 World Cup due to the Covid-19 (Covie-19) epidemic.

The women's qualifying competition was to be held in Sri Lanka from July 3 to 19, in which 10 teams including host Sri Lanka were to take part. The other teams were Bangladesh, Ireland, the Netherlands, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, USA, West Indies, and Zimbabwe.

The ICC said in a press release that it has been decided to postpone the qualifying process of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2021 and the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 after consulting members and relevant governments and public health officials.

The qualifying process of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2022 was, to begin with the European regional qualifier to be held in Denmark from 24 to 30 July. The ICC will consult competing countries for when these tournaments can be organized.

Players' health is most important

ICC Head of Competition Chris Tetley said that we have decided to postpone two upcoming qualifying events due to ongoing restrictions on travel, global health concerns, and the advice of the government and public health officials. He said that both the Women's Cricket World Cup qualifiers and the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022 European qualifiers have been affected.

Tetley said that the health of the players is the most important. In this difficult time, our priority is to keep players, coaches, officials, fans and the entire cricket community healthy. Competitions for the ICC Under-19 World Cup Regional Qualifier Division 2 are also under review. The Africa qualifiers are scheduled to take place from August 7 to 14 in Tanzania, while the Asia qualifiers will be held in Thailand from December 1 to 9. In all five regions, Division 1 competitions will be held in 2021.
