 India's Bloodbath at Jamaica Test 1976 can be called the most haunted Test match in Cricket history. As Windies bowlers sent 3 of the Indian batsman to hospital.  And Bishan Singh Bedi and Chandra Shekhar were the two who were injured during fielding.

In Sabina Park Kingston Jamaica India vs West Indies 1976 Match was played. Clive Llyod leading the Windies side and Bishan Singh Bedi was the Indian captain on the tour.  The defeat in the second last Test match in Port of Spain ratled Clive Llyod. As Team India chased down 400+ target, the highest target chase ever. And West Indies playing the series after being rattled in the series against Australia. So Clive Llyod decided to go with 4 fast bowlers Andy Roberts, Michael Holding, Wayne Denial and Bernard Julien in the Jamaica Test.

Clive Llyod won the toss and invited India to bat. Sunil Gavaskar and Anshuman Gaekwad's half-centuries took the score to 175-1 at the end of 1st day's play. Windies followed the short pitch tactics to stop Indian batsman. And in 2nd day Gaekwad was hit on the left ear (as those were pre helmet days) and had to spent 2 nights in the hospital. Gundappa Vishwanath  also got injured as his finger was fractured and dislocated. And the bowl hit Brijesh Patel in the mouth and in the mouth. All 3 of them didn't further take part in the match.

Bishan Singh Bedi declared the first inning on 306-6 to save himself and Chandrashekhar from the nasty short pitch bowls as both of them were India's best bowlers.

Second Inning of Jamaica Test 1976


In reply, West Indies scored 391-10 with the help of 107 runs partnership between Michael Holding and Deryck Murray for the 7th wicket. That resulted in 81 runs lead after the end of 2nd inning.

Bedi's decision to declare early and save himself and Chandrashekhar resulted as they shared 7 wickets between them but they couldn't save themselves while fielding. And they got injured while attempting return catches in Windies first inning and ruled them out of the second inning.

Third and forth Inning of the Test


India trail by 85 runs started the second inning on a shaky note without 3 of their top-order batsman. Soon India lost their 5 wickets at a score of 97. Once again Bedi declared the inning at a minor lead of 12 runs which is unexpected as India's 5 players didn't participate in the second inning. And West Indies won the match by 10 wickets.

After Windies Victory Bedi issued an official statement clearing that Indian inning should be recorded as completed as no other batsman left to bat in the second inning. And thus the Jamaica Test match turned out haunted and blood bathing for team India and West Indies won the series by 2-1.

A short scorecard of India vs West Indies 1976


India 306-6 declared (Sunil Gavaskar 66, Anshuman Gaekwad 81 retired hurt; Michael Holding 4 for 82) and 97 (Mohinder Amarnath 60; Michael Holding 3 for 35) lost to West Indies 391 (Roy Fredericks 82, Lawrence Rowe 47, Viv Richards 64, Deryck Murray 71, Michael Holding 55; Bhagwat Chandrasekhar 5 for 153) and 13 for no loss by 10 wickets.
