Former cricketer Kirti Azad, who was part of the World Cup-winning team, shared many memories of that era with Jagran. Kirti said that on 28–29 May 1983, he received a call from the captain of the team, Kapil Dev, that you have been selected in the World Cup team, so it felt like a paid trip of one and a half months was found. However, he was still playing cricket in North England at the call of Mohinder Amarnath and many cricketers in the country. After this phone, the hopes of fulfilling the dream of visiting England and America were also aroused.

Kirti told that the Indian team was only expected to reach the semi-finals. There was nowhere to win the World Cup. But when the first match was played with the 1975 and 1977 world-winning team West Indies and won it, they gained confidence. It felt like this victory was not a rhyme. Later, in a match with Zimbabwe, Kapil scored an unbeaten 175 runs, these expectations started to get stronger.

Kirti explains that this World Cup can be called a turning point for India. The capacity of the Indian cricket team grew, it was taken seriously.
