6 contenders for the post of ICC chairman, including Sourav Ganguli

Contenders for the post of ICC Chairman

Cricket, returning to the ground while battling the Coronavirus epidemic, will have to face another conflict in the next few days. This struggle is to select the one who sits on the highest administrative seat of cricket i.e. to choose the next chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). After resigning from this post of Shashank Manohar, 'Who will be the chairman?' The only question is floating.

Next week, the ICC Board will approve the process of the selection of a new chairman. But before that, pay attention to the news coming from different circles of cricket, then at this time 6 people are competing for the post, for which different reasons are being counted for becoming ICC chairman. An Indian is also included in this list.

Sourav Ganguly's name is at the forefront

Former Indian captain and currently chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (Sourav Ganguly) is on the top of the list of contenders in the race to become ICC chairman. However, Ganguly himself has not yet said that he will nominate for this post or not. But seeing the possibility of his term ending as BCCI President, it is believed that he will stake a claim to become the ICC President. Actually, Ganguly's term as BCCI president will end on July 27 due to the recommendations of the Lodha Committee.

In the recommendations of the Lodha Committee, there is a provision for a total of 6 years of tenure in the BCCI and the state association, after which a mandatory cooling-off period of 3 years has to be taken. 6 years of Ganguly will be completed on 27 July. Although he has appealed to the Supreme Court for exemption from this mandatory break, the hearing has not been started on that yet.

In such a situation, in the event of leaving the BCCI, Ganguly himself would prefer to sit on the top seat of the highest administrative institution of cricket. Sri Lanka cricket has already supported Ganguly's claim. Apart from this, they are also expected to get support from countries like Bangladesh, West Indies, etc.

Graves' biggest challenge for Ganguly

In the race to become ICC chairman, the biggest challenge before Ganguly is that of England's Colin Graves. Graves has been a former chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and is fully aware of the ICC's administrative system.

Cricket Australia has also supported Graves' claim. Ganguly's name was believed to be backed by the BCCI before he was elevated to the position of chairman. However, South Africa and many others find it difficult to agree on Graves. But they can get the support of the Pakistan Cricket Board. Especially in this Corona period, this possibility has increased due to the ECB's move to call the Pakistani cricket team in its place.
