'Can't compare myself with Virat or Rohit,' why Dravid said this

Former captain of Team India Rahul Dravid has made a very interesting comment on his batting. According to Dravid, the kind of batting that he used to do in his time, even if he used to bat the same way today, he would not have got a place in the Indian team. Along with this, Dravid also said that despite the slow batting, his defensive technique would keep him a special batsman in Test cricket as it was more important to stand on the pitch in Test matches.

At the same time, it was mandatory to bat aggressively in ODIs and it is equally important today and for this reason, Dravid has no objection in accepting that comparing him with Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would be meaningless. Dravid said this because he knows that he could never bat like Virat and Rohit.

Dravid, during a conversation with Sanjay Manjrekar, confessed these things elsewhere that he always wanted to become a Test cricketer. Dravid said, 'If it means staying at the crease for a long time or exhausting the bowlers or ending the glow of the new ball in difficult conditions so that it can be easier to play later, I would do it. I used to see it as my role and I am proud of it.

It does not mean that I did not want to bat like Virender Sehwag or to play shots like that but maybe my skill is different. My skill was related to commitment and concentration and I worked on it.

Dravid further said, "Of course, if I used to bat the way I used to bat today, I (in the team) would not have survived." Look at today's strike rate. My strike rate in ODI cricket was not like Sachin Tendulkar or Veeru but then we used to play cricket in the same way.

I cannot compare myself with Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma because they have taken the ODI norms to a new level. But to be honest, I went ahead with the idea of ​​becoming a Test player.

After talking about the importance of strike rate in Test and ODI cricket, Dravid praised Team India's middle-order batsman Cheteshwar Pujara and said, 'He soon came to know after coming from a place like Saurashtra that he needs to do something special compared to other players. So he tried to make his every innings special and thus progressed his batting.

He has many types of shots and he knows it. He is unmatched in front of the spinners and also rotates the strike. Pujara has worked very well in his game. His concentration is excellent. For a player like Pujara, there will always be a place in the team as their technicality will always contribute in winning the match.

When Dravid was asked whether the importance of Test cricket was diminishing, he replied, 'I think that even though its importance is decreasing, you still have to defend your wicket. It is not necessary to be a Test cricketer to stay in cricket today.
